Aluminum blister foil Introduction

High-quality pharmaceutical products require blister packaging to protect them from environmental influences, oxygen and moisture. Only in this way can pharmaceutical ingredients maintain their efficacy after taking them.

Aluminum blister foil is an important component of blister packaging and comes in three types: bare, coated or printed. Blister packaging coatings available include polyurethane and epoxy resin-based adhesion promoters, heat seal and release coatings.

Aluminum blister foil is typically 25-30 microns thick. The glossy side is coated with a heat seal coating and the matte side is coated with a printed treatment coating.

What is blister packaging?

Blister packaging is commonly used for pharmaceutical products in the pharmaceutical industry. Generally consists of two parts, including a so-called push-in blister (or simply "blister", a molded plastic with a cavity for holding individual tablets), and a push-in closure made of aluminum foil ( called blister film or aluminum blister foil). Plastic press-fit blisters must be sealed with an aluminum lidding film to ensure effective protection of the tablets. For this purpose, the aluminum foil is coated with a suitable sealant, usually a heat sealing paint, which is used to seal the blister to the blister film. Therefore, capsules and tablets are hygienically clean and protected.
