Advantages and disadvantages of PVC Blister Packaging
The main advantages of blister package pvc are low cost and easy thermoforming.
The main disadvantage is the poor barrier to moisture ingress and oxygen ingress.

Thickness of PVC sheet for medicinal blister
The pvc film for blister packaging provides structural rigidity and physical protection to the pharmaceutical dosage form, and the formed mesh is not too rigid to collapse when pressed; therefore, the thickness of the PVC sheet is typically chosen between 200µ and 300µ, depending on the cavity size and shape.
Most PVC Sheet Roll used for medicinal blisters are 250µ or 0.250mm thick.

Properties(WVTR, OTR) of PVC Blisters
Typical values for the Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR or MVTR) of a 250µ PVC film measured at 38 °C/90% RH are approximately 3.0 g/m 2 /day and the Oxygen Transmission Rate (OTR) is approximately 20 mL /m 2/day.

Application of PVC in Pharmaceutical Blister Packaging
PVC film for medical packaging is a packaging material made by calendering. It has the characteristics of high gloss, transparency and easy thermoforming. In addition, the PVC layer can be colored with pigments and/or UV filters
In order to overcome the lack of barrier properties of PVC Rigid Film, it can be coated with PVDC or laminated with PCTFE or COC to increase the protective properties.
PVC-based multilayer blister films are commonly used in pharmaceutical blister packaging, including tablets, capsules, plastic suppositories, aluminum foil for blister packaging. Where PVC is used as the thermoformable skeleton of the structure.
