From Structure to Application: Understanding Aluminum Honeycomb Panels

Jun 26, 2024

Introduction to Aluminum Honeycomb Panel

Through hot pressing technology, the aluminum plate and aluminum honeycomb core are firmly combined with hot melt adhesive. Due to the high thermal conductivity between the aluminum skin and the honeycomb, the thermal expansion and contraction of the inner and outer aluminum skins are synchronized, and some honeycomb foils have holes so that the gas in the board can flow freely.

Structure

Aluminum honeycomb panels are mainly composed of three core structural layers: Upper panel + aluminum honeycomb core + bottom panel.

There is also a panel surface texture layer (color coating) + double-layer adhesive layer, forming a six-layer sandwich design.

Advantages:

  • High strength

  • Light texture: The weight of the honeycomb panel with the same rigidity is only 1/5 of the weight of the aluminum veneer and 1/10 of the steel plate; the honeycomb core has a low density, which is 1/5 of the weight of the same thickness and area of the wood board, 1/6 of the glass, and 1/7 of the aluminum material;

  • Good flatness, not easy to deform, and can be cut and folded at will;

  • Sound insulation and heat insulation (insulation)

  • Impact resistance (shock absorption)

  • Anti-fatigue

  • Weather resistance

  • Fire resistance (flame retardant)

  • Waterproof and moisture-proof

  • Recyclable, etc.

Application:

(1) Building curtain wall exterior wall panels;

 (2) Interior decoration projects;

 (3) Roofing materials;

 (4) Shipbuilding;

 (5) Aviation manufacturing industry;

 (6) Indoor partitions and product display stands;

 (7) Commercial transport vehicles and container truck bodies;

 (8) Interior decoration of buses, trains, subways and rail transit vehicles;

Process:

1) Surface passivated aluminum foil is coated with node glue (epoxy modified high temperature curing glue);

 2) Aluminum foil is sliced according to the design size, stacked (the number of layers is related to the length of the finished honeycomb core), fused at high temperature, cut into blocks (according to the height of the finished honeycomb core), and stretched into a hexagonal honeycomb;

 3) Glue is applied to the inner side of the bottom plate, the honeycomb core is placed on it, the position is adjusted, and then the inner side of the panel is coated with glue and covered on the upper layer of the honeycomb.

 4) Hydraulic curing, cooling and cutting.
