The 5000 series aluminum alloy belongs to the commonly used alloy aluminum plate series. The main element is magnesium, which can also be called aluminum magnesium alloy. The magnesium content is between 3-5%.
5000 series aluminum sheets are mainly characterized by low density, high tensile strength and high elongation. Under the same area, the weight of aluminum magnesium alloy is lower than that of other series, so it is commonly used in aviation, such as aircraft fuel tank, and is also widely used in conventional industry.

The processing technology of 5xxx series aluminum alloy is continuous casting and rolling, which belongs to hot-rolled aluminum plate series, so it can do deep oxidation processing. In China, 5000 series aluminum plate is one of the more mature aluminum plate series.
Common grade of 5 series aluminum plate: 5052.5083.5a02, etc.
5052 aluminum plate has good corrosion resistance, excellent weldability and good cold workability, and has medium strength. It is used to manufacture aircraft fuel tank, oil pipe, sheet metal parts of traffic vehicles and ships, instruments, street lamp supports and rivets, hardware products, electrical enclosures, etc.
5052 is also a widely used antirust aluminum. This alloy has high strength, especially fatigue strength: high plasticity and corrosion resistance, can not be strengthened by heat treatment, good plasticity in semi cold work hardening, low plasticity in cold work hardening, good corrosion resistance, good weldability, poor machinability and polishing. It is mainly used for low load parts that require high plasticity and good weldability and work in liquid or gas media, such as oil tank, gasoline or lubricating oil conduit, various liquid containers and other low load parts made by deep drawing.
The chemical composition of 5A02 alloy is similar to that of 5052 alloy, and its properties are basically the same as that of 5052 alloy.
5083 aluminum plate is a high magnesium alloy with good strength, corrosion resistance and machinability among non heat treatable alloys. It has beautiful surface and good welding performance after anodizing. It has good corrosion resistance, weldability and medium strength.
The excellent corrosion resistance makes 5083 alloy widely used in maritime applications, such as ships, automobile, aircraft welding parts, subway light rail, pressure vessels requiring strict fire prevention (such as liquid tank cars, refrigerated vehicles, containers), refrigeration devices, TV towers, drilling equipment, transportation equipment, missile parts, armor, etc.
