Alloy type and performance display of Aluminium Alloy Plate
Aluminium Alloy Plate alloy series named with four digits, of which the first digit represents the main alloy element, the second digit represents the variant of a specific alloy, and the third and fourth digits are any number assigned to a specific alloy in the series.
Alloy composition, performance characteristics and Application of Aluminium Alloy Plate | ||
| alloy series | Main alloy composition | Performance characteristics and Applications |
| 1XXX | 99% MINIMUM ALUMINUM | Aluminum cannot reach 100% purity, but aluminum in this forged series category contains at least 99% aluminum. 1xxx alloy is considered pure aluminum for all intents and purposes. It is worth noting that this alloy is an exception to the naming rules of forging series - in the name of 1xxx alloy, the last two digits represent the minimum percentage of aluminum above 99. For example, alloy 1350 consists of at least 99.50% aluminum.Pure aluminum has excellent corrosion resistance and machinability, as well as high conductivity and thermal conductivity. For this reason, this alloy is usually used in electrical and chemical applications. Pure aluminum is not very strong and is rarely used in structural applications, but strain hardening can moderately improve the strength of the material. |
| 2XXX | COPPER | This forged series alloy provides high strength and properties over a wide temperature range and is often used in aerospace applications. A famous aircraft aluminum alloy is 2024 alloy. However, some copper aluminum alloys are prone to heat and stress corrosion cracking and are considered to be non weldable, while other 2XXX alloys can be welded using the correct method. 2XXX reduces the elongation and tensile strength of aluminum and provides good corrosion resistance unlike other alloys in the forging series. |
| 3XXX | MANGANESE | 3xxx aluminum alloy was originally used only for pots and pans, but now it is widely used in heat exchanger components of vehicles and power plants. This kind of alloy has good temperature stability and corrosion resistance, and is suitable for use under extreme conditions. 3xxx also has good formability and machinability. 3003 is a popular manganese alloy for medium strength applications requiring complex shapes. |
| 4XXX | SILICON | 3xxx aluminum alloy was originally used only for pots and pans, but now it is widely used in heat exchanger components of vehicles and power plants. This kind of alloy has good temperature stability and corrosion resistance, and is suitable for use under extreme conditions. 3xxx also has good formability and machinability. 3003 is a popular manganese alloy for medium strength applications requiring complex shapes. |
| 5XXX | MAGNESIUM | This kind of aluminum alloy is easy to weld and is widely used in shipbuilding, transportation, bridge construction and construction fields. 5xxx alloy has good corrosion resistance in marine environment, and its strength is the highest among all non heat treatable alloys. However, 5xxx alloy with magnesium content of more than 3% to 3.5% is not recommended for high temperature applications above 65.6 ° C (150 ° f) because it may produce stress corrosion cracking. |
| 6XXX | MAGNESIUM AND SILICON | 6xxx alloy is usually composed of about 1.0% magnesium and silicon, which will produce magnesium silicide. Magnesium silicide can support solid solution heat treatment to improve strength, formability and corrosion resistance. This forging serial number is used throughout the welding manufacturing industry, mainly for structural components and extrusions. These alloys are sensitive to solidification cracks, which means that they should not be welded without filler materials - usually, 6xxx is welded with 4xxx or 5xxx filler materials to improve weldability. One of the main magnesium silicide alloys is 6061, which is one of the most common heat treatable aluminum alloys. |
| 7XXX | ZINC | 6xxx alloy is usually composed of about 1.0% magnesium and silicon, which will produce magnesium silicide.
